RE-VISITING BHAGAT

Of late I once again came into contact with our martyr BHAGAT through annals but in a new and fresh perspective. The image of bhagat singh in my mind was of a radical and romantic youth having some socialist ideas but with a very powerful will power and determination for self sacrifice for sake of nationalism or love for country and after watching so many films on the life of bhagat that image got fixed in my mind that he was against non-violent techniques to attain freedom and became a brand for revolution and a brand of terror for British government and some incidents of his own life also frame the same image in one's mind (murder of Scot and assembly bomb case etc.)
But he was much more than a sermonizer of violence to achieve independence.Even i can say that the whole troop of theirs wasn't a band of youths without any political and ideological strategy. From the days of formation of HRA these young men knew that no revolution can survive without ideology, money and arms(for armed rebellion)they were in favour of forming a republic of india .But the the comrades of HRA got trapped by british except CHANDRASHEKAHR .Again under the leadership of him newly formed HSRA have done a tremendous job of making youth aware about the revolution its causes and consequences.
About political consciousness they had a very deep knowledge about politics as we can easily identify it from the name of organisation itself that how much they were affected with socialism and republican philosophy. in bhagat's own words" the sword of revolution is sharpened on the whetting-stone of ideas."according to him every individual have an equal right over natural resources, and the real revolutionary armies are in village and factories this shows how much he was aware of the power of mass struggle. As he once said the revolution come from masses of masses.
About the violence as his critics call him "revolutionary terrorist" but he was not. once he said " Apparently , i have acted like terrorist in my early carrier.......but let me announce with all my strength i am not a terrorist i never was".He was also against any individual heroic action, instead he stressed on the awareness of masses and that was the real motive for the assembly bomb case.As he once said "By revolution we don't mean sanguinary war or personal vendetta, what we mean present order of things which are based on grave injustice must change".
He got the capital punishment and he still refused to give up and than started the famous strike of 64 days. But that strike was not for his own sake that too was a revolt against the inequality of prisoners on the basis of origin. But again he was not trying to prove something or to become a hero as he said
"I am only trying to stand like a man with erect head to the last, even to the gallows..."
